Introduction to Sociology
Course Content: This course introduces the basic concepts of sociology. The students will be introduced to the study of the functioning and organization of human society, and human behavior.
Grading:
- Tests/Projects 45%
- Quizzes 20%
- Class Participation 20%
- Homework 15%
Participation: A daily participation grade will be given. This grade will range from
0-5. Part of each class will be devoted to group discussion. Points may be deducted for many reasons including, a poor attitude, tardiness, sleeping, talking out of turn, not being prepared for class discussion or an unwillingness to participate in class discussion. Disorderly or disruptive conduct within class will result in your being asked to leave the class for the period; such disruption will result in a 0 for participation for that day and detention
Attendance: All students are expected in class on time everyday. If you are tardy, you will receive a detention for that day. If you are absent from class, it is imperative that you get notes from a classmate and see me if you need help or clarification on any of the material missed in class. Quizzes/ Tests must be made up within 2 days of returning to school—no exceptions.
Homework – Homework should be completed by the due date assigned; any homework not passed in by the due date will result in a 0 for that day’s homework.
Quizzes – will be given following the review of 1-3 units per chapter.
Tests – Tests will be given at the completion of each chapter of the text.
I am available for questions/extra assistance during my free periods throughout the day, if we are unable to schedule to meet during regular school hours, I will be available after school per appointment.
